Arriving in the BVI: Entry Requirements

All visitors to the British Virgin Islands must present a valid passport. We also recommend completing the BVI Entry/Departure (ED) Card online within three days before your arrival. This simple step ensures a seamless experience at Customs and Immigration.

Arriving by Air: Connecting Flights & Direct Routes

There are no direct flights from Canada, Europe, or South America to the BVI. Instead, most international visitors connect via major Caribbean hubs like Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Antigua, or St. Maarten. The main airport in Tortola is Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS).

Great news for U.S. travellers: American Airlines now offers direct flights from Miami to Tortola. If you’re planning to continue on to Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Peter Island, or Jost Van Dyke, be sure to check the availability of inter-island flights or ferries. If arriving after 4pm, consider staying a night in Tortola before continuing your journey.

Arriving by Sea: A Sailor's Dream

The BVI is famous for its sailing culture, and many guests arrive by private yacht or ferry. Ports of entry include:

• Road Town, Tortola

• West End, Tortola

• Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke

• St. Thomas Bay, Virgin Gorda

Each port has specific operating hours, and all vessels must clear Customs and Immigration immediately upon arrival. If you plan to sail between islands or arrive after-hours, advance arrangements are required.
